Exfoliation. An important part of my skincare regime. A little while ago my friend who uses the same products as me (containing exfoliating beads) told me how bad these products can be for the environment. They contain plastic beads which are often not biodegradable. More recently, people such as Dougie Poynter have drawn attention to this on instagram.
When my friend told me about it, I said, ‘ok, i’ll use my soap and glory thingy (yep, my words) to exfoliate’. He asked what I was on about. I showed him. I later bought him one too. I’ve had several over the years for when I use face washes without the plastic beads. I used to use soap and glory’s ‘Scrub your nose in it’, it was one of my favourites, but I will be checking the ingredients thoroughly before I consider buying it again.
I also have a lot of books that have recipes for making natural exfoliants at home, I just need to get around to trying them. In the mean time though, I use my soap and glory ‘thingy’. It’s actually called a ‘face massage mini mitt’, but I use it to exfoliate.
If you have a better option, please let me know. I know that this isn’t a biodegradable product. I keep mine for years, only having replaced it when i’ve lost one. It costs £4 from BOOTS. I use it gently, a little firmer around my T zone.

‘Use your skin massage mitt alone or with a dollop of cleanser and rub gently in upward, circular motions over your face and neck. (You can massage down and in rectangles if you want, but ‘up’ somehow seems more optimistic.)’ – Soap & Glory

So please give it some thought. Exfoliating beads are great for exfoliating, but not so great for the planet. I know some facial scrubs use sugar, oatmeal and other natural exfoliants. I’m constantly trying out new products. Whilst my friends are still eating lunch, i’m in the skincare section at WHOLEFOODS. As always, I welcome any suggestions and recommendations in the comments. Sharing is caring. If you have a blog, and have tried making your own facial scrubs, i’d love to check it out.
Much Love,
Stace x
